Grinding Up

The lumber market continued to grind higher regardless of the weather and slower take away. Mills continue to be in control as they had no problem raising prices and extending order files last week. Studs remained the hottest category again with 2x4-8’ narrowing the gap with 2x4-9’s by gaining almost $30mbf for the week. Since the beginning of February, 8’ studs have increased in price more than 26%.

The Panel market had another quiet sales week. Prices remained flat for the most part as buyers remained conservative with their purchases. Trucking is starting to be a concern for some mills.

Southern Pine wides remain strong, with 2x12 #2 reaching $600 f.o.b. mill in all three pricing zones.
