July 15th Market Update

The market gained some strength last week as prices moved higher in all species of dimension lumber. Sales were strong in Western SPF dimension as mills built order files and implemented curtailments. Southern Pine mills were very active in spite of wet conditions across the south. Trucking in the south has been a huge problem causing many buyers to purchase extra loads to avoid shortages.

The panel market also saw more activity last week as buyers stepped in to cover immediate needs. Many believe that the downside has been wrung out of the market for now.

The overall tone of the market is better than it’s been in a while. Dealers and wholesalers are still reporting strong sales and project it will remain strong for the second half of the year.
